Copycat Pumpkin Faces
Setting:
classroom, daycare or at home
Ingredients:
Paper
Felt
Scissors
Markers
Glue
Instructions:
Take felt and cut out pumpkin templates
Next cut out different shapes and create
different faces by gluing smaller shapes on the pumpkins.
Cut out or have the individual cut out
his or her own pumpkin templates using scissors and regular paper.
Next have them copy the pumpkin that they
see above using markers.
Purpose: The
purpose of this activity is for the individual to identify with shapes and
different faces. Having them verbally say how they think the pumpkin is feeling
judging by facial expression can help them identify the needs of others and
express their own emotions using body language and faces. Also having them
mimic the pumpkin template that is given using the felt can help to problem
solve and follow simple directions. Following directions is necessary in school
and work areas and helps by identifying attention needs of the individual. This
all was identified by using a sequencing task of making the face by focusing on
one area of the face at the time (the nose, mouth, eyes, ect). Use of felt can also
create sensory stimulation in the difference in feel from that and the rough
paper. Fine motor skills were also used in that the face was drawn by the individual.
This helps their pinch grip needed in writing skills and ADL’s such as
buttoning shirts or zipping zippers.
