Magnetic Puzzles

Magnetic Puzzles
Magnetic Puzzles.
Setting: kitchen or classroom with a white board

Ingredients:
Puzzles (size depends on age group desired)
Glue
Magnets

Instructions:
Glue magnet strips to the back of puzzle pieces.
Allow glue to dry and cluster the pieces on the fridge of white board.
Allow individual to put the puzzle together.

Purpose: Fine motor skills needed for writing and dressing, gross motor skills in reaching arm up to grab piece and put together. Enhances problem solving and critical thinking by using trial and error to see what pieces fit where that is a useful skill that can be used throughout life and within school. Trial and error is one of the greatest things about problem solving because failure to find the right piece that fits within the puzzle you remember your errors more so than your successes and will motivate the individual to keep going. Range of motion is demonstrated in the upper extremity because if the fridge or metal surface is up higher than the individual. Use of hand weights could be used to strengthen wrist and arm movement.
