Pom-Pom Straw Blowing

Blowing Pom-Poms on a Line
blowing pom pom along a line of tape.
Setting: in a large open area such as a living room or cleared out classroom

Materials:
Pom Poms
Straw
Different colored masking or duct-tape

Instructions:
Tape down different colored duct tape on the floor in different directions.
Take a pom-pom that matches the color tapeline and blow it with a straw along the line.
Do the best you can to keep the pom-pom on the line while blowing it.

Purpose: This activity encourages regulation of oral motor. Fine motor skills and color recognition is used in order to chose the correct color for the right colored tapeline. Use of the straw encourages more oral motor control by regulating the amount of breath that is used in order to push the pom pom along with line yet not too much to push it off of the line. Oral control is necessary for expanding speech. Gross motor control is used to follow the ball along the line on the floor.
