Dancing

Dancing
Dancing
Setting: dance studio, dance hall, large room, living room, or classroom

Ingredients:
Music
Weights (if desired)

1. Play music and allow the individual to dance as they wish.
2. To create more of a critical thinking aspect if you made up a simple dance and had them re-do it. Simple dances such as the cupid shuffle that give verbal cues to what they would have to do would be beneficial to perform as well.

Purpose: This activity works on emotional expression in moving to music in however way you feel along with balance in order to stand and dance around while shifting weight from side to side. Gross motor mobility is exercised in having the individual move around either sequenced (in a waltz) or in fun emotional expression in free form dancing. This also is a socialization group activity or can be done independently. It involves all areas of the body both upper and lower extremities. Weights such as weighted gloves/ankle weights could also be added during the dancing activity to add for strength in those that have weak extremities. If using a song such as the cupid shuffle that gives verbal cues to what motion you are to move in next, critical thinking and vestibular sensory to pick up on verbal cues.
