Giant Shape Sort
Giant Shape Sort
Setting: Would work best in a large area such as a living room or cleared out classroom.

Materials:
Masking tape
Objects around the house

Instructions:
Use masking tape to make large shapes on the floor (triangle, circle, square, rectangle)
Allow the person to hunt for the shapes around the house
Sort each item according to its shape and place it inside the giant taped shape.

Purpose: The purpose of this activity would be to get the individual to problem solve and identify different shapes. Problem solving and identification will also be needed later on in school or work settings. Upper and lower extremity range of motion is needed in order to move around to get the objects. Grasp and upper extremity strength is needed in order to grab the objects and bring it over to the taped shape on the floor. Balance is needed to shift the person’s own weight while walking around to identify objects.
