Fire Breathing Dragon
Setting: in a
classroom or at home
Materials:
Pom Poms
Googly Eyes
Felt or
Streamers
Scissors
Tape or Glue
Solo Cup
Popsicle stick
Instructions:
Cut a hole in the opposite side of the
cup.
Glue or tape felt or streamers that were
previously cut at the mouth of the dragon so that they blow when you blow out
into the cup.
Glue pom-poms on top of the cup and then
add googley eyes on the top of the pom poms.
Last glue on a popsicle stick on the same
end a hole was cut so that the individual can hold it up to their mouth.
Allow the individual to blow into the
dragon and watch the fire streamers blow around.
Purpose: This type of activity stimulates oral
motor control along with a fun way to encourage verbal ability. It also is a
good way in order to know their body and their regulation of breath to control
the fire that comes out of the dragon’s mouth. Oral stimulation is needed in
order for the individual to develop speech. Grasp is also demonstrated in the individuals ability to hold the dragon up to their lips by holding onto the popsicle stick.
