Movie Move & Groove
Setting: living
room or gymnasium
Materials:
Movie
DVD player (in
most cases)
Electricity
Television
Paper
Markers
Instructions:
1.Using paper
and markers create scenarios to the movie that is going to be watched. (In the
picture it uses the movie Harry Potter.) I would recommend using about 10 different activities for a
movie.
2. Turn on the
movie and have the individuals follow the activities according to what happens
in the movie, such as five jumping jacks for every spell cast in the Harry
Potter Movie.
3. Continue
following the list until the end of the movie.
Purpose: This
not only helps create a sedentary activity into a mobile one but also
demonstrates the individual’s ability to pay attention and follow directions.
In order for the person to know when they have to perform physical activity
they need to be aware of what is going on in the movie and able to pick up on
verbal and visual cues to follow the directions. By incorporating the use of
gross motor activity into the movie is also allows them to exercise their range
of motion in both their upper extremity and lower extremity. Strength could
also be used if incorporation of push-ups or other self-weight exercises.
