Duct-Tape Flag Game
Setting:
classroom or large area such as a cafeteria or living room in home.
Ingredients:
2 chairs
4 different
color duct tape
1 rope
Instructions:
String a rope from one chair to another
chair at about 5 feet apart and so that it is a little bit off the ground.
Fold a piece of duct tape of each desired
color and place about a foot apart from one another.
Have the person stand in front of the
tape and rope and name off a different series of colors such as pink, zebra,
blue, purple.
Next have them repeat the order of colors
you just said by tapping their foot up to the color duct tape hanging off the
rope.
Keep going until the person has completed
remembering 10-12 color segments.
Purpose: The purpose of this activity was to
demonstrate the ability to follow directions, problem solve and critical
thinking was exercised in order for the individual to remember what colors were
next. Sequencing is also involved to try and remember the order that the colors
were given or for what they did the time before. Sequencing and critical
thinking is necessary for cognitive function needed in school and work
situations especially. Ability for vestibular input and senses are exercised
because the individual needs to hear the verbal cues of what colors are going
to be needed to be touched. Gross motor control and balance is needed in order
to move the body to touch the color of the flag with one leg. Gross motor
control enhances range of motion in this case of the lower extremity.
